Linguistics and Contemporary Hindi: A Study of Social Media and the Hinglish Culture of the Young Generation

Abstract

This research presents a detailed reinterpretation of the emerging forms of spoken and digital communication in contemporary Hindi. The widespread expansion of the Internet and social media platforms has brought rapid and deep changes in word choice, styles of expression, and sentence structure. Among the youth in particular, language use has shifted away from traditional formal norms toward a more flexible, mixed, and utility-centered mode. These changes are clearly visible in everyday speech and equally reflected in mobile apps, messaging, and public posts. The most evident form of this transformation is Hinglish, born from the blending of English and Hindi. Hinglish extends beyond the mere exchange of words to influence sentence construction, communication speed, and cultural cues. Young people often combine English words and phrases within Hindi structures to achieve quick and effortless interaction. This style makes conversation simpler and more informal but simultaneously poses challenges to traditional linguistic conventions and cultural understanding. The aim of this study is to closely examine these linguistic trends on digital platforms and to understand how global connectivity, technological ease, and the communicative needs of young people are shaping the present form of Hindi. The research also considers the extent to which this multilingual mixture impacts social identity, communicative effectiveness, and the long-term structure of the language. Overall, the analysis shows that contemporary Hindi has become a dynamic, multi-layered, and platform-dependent linguistic system that constantly seeks balance between tradition and innovation. The study further provides directions for future research, such as comparing regional variations, conducting practical analysis based on primary data, and examining the influence of language integration in educational policies. Abstract in Hindi Language: यह शोध समकालीन हिन्दी भाषा में उभर रहे बोलचाल और डिजिटल संवाद के स्वरूपों का विस्तृत पुनर्लेखन प्रस्तुत करता है। इंटरनेट तथा सोशल प्लेटफ़ॉर्मों के व्यापक प्रसार ने शब्द-चयन, अभिव्यक्ति के तरीकों और वाक्य-रचना में तेज़ और गहरे बदलाव लाए हैं। खासकर युवा वर्ग में भाषा का प्रयोग अब पारंपरिक औपचारिकता से हटकर अधिक लचीला, मिश्रित और उपयोग-केंद्रित हो गया है। यह बदलाव रोज़मर्रा की बोली में स्पष्ट दिखाई देता है और मोबाइल एप्स, मैसेजिंग तथा सार्वजनिक पोस्टों पर समान रूप से झलकता है। इन परिवर्तनों का सबसे स्पष्ट रूप अंग्रेज़ी और हिन्दी के मेल से उत्पन्न हुई हिंग्लिश है, जो केवल शब्दों के आदान-प्रदान से परे जाकर वाक्य के निर्माण, संवाद की तीव्रता और सांस्कृतिक संकेतों में भी दिखती है। युवा अक्सर अंग्रेज़ी के शब्द तथा वाक्यांश हिन्दी रूप में जोड़कर त्वरित और सहज संवाद का रास्ता चुनते हैं। यह शैली बातचीत को सरल और अनौपचारिक बनाती है, पर साथ ही पारंपरिक भाषा-रूढियों और सांस्कृतिक समझ के संदर्भ में चुनौतियाँ भी पेश करती है। इस अध्ययन का उद्देश्य डिजिटल मञ्चों पर चल रही भाषा-प्रवृत्तियों की बारीकी से जांच करना तथा यह समझना है कि किस प्रकार वैश्विक संपर्क, तकनीकी सहजता और युवक संवाद की ज़रूरतें हिन्दी के वर्तमान स्वरूप को आकार दे रही हैं। शोध यह भी देखता है कि किस हद तक यह बहुभाषिक मिश्रण सामाजिक पहचान, संवाद का प्रभाव और भाषा के दीर्घकालिक स्वरूप पर असर डालता है। समग्र रूप से, यह विश्लेषण बताता है कि समकालीन हिन्दी अब एक गतिशील, बहुस्तरीय और प्लेटफ़ॉर्म-निर्भर भाषिक व्यवस्था बन चुकी है, जो परंपरा और नवप्रवर्तन के बीच निरंतर संतुलन तलाश रही है। यह अध्ययन आगे के शोध के लिए दिशानिर्देश भी प्रदान करता है, जैसे क्षेत्रीय विविधताओं की तुलना, प्राथमिक डेटा पर आधारित व्यवहारिक विश्लेषण तथा शैक्षिक नीतियों में भाषा-समेकन के प्रभाव का परीक्षण करना। व्यावहारिक एवं नीतिगत सुझाव।
